11A – Idea Napkin No. 1

1) You-

As a sophomore studying business management and minoring in mass communications, I feel that I have strong skills in leadership and public relations.  I like to use my sense of creativity to think outside of the box and come up with new ways to market something.  I have had a lot of experience in business ever high school where I became involved in a business organization called DECA.  Additionally, I am currently working at a place called The Selling Factory as a business development intern and am learning new skills every day.  Through this experience, I have been able to see various types of companies grow and have a greater understanding of what it takes to make an idea into something successful.  If I were to open my restaurant Stacked, I would probably do it right after I graduate college since I will already be in Gainesville and can start initiating major leads during my senior year.  I see this business as being a major part of my life and would want to be active in not only the decision making tasks but also the everyday management, and would therefore have to work at different hours of the day and night.

2) What are you offering to customers?-

I am offering to customers an opportunity to eat breakfast food in a customizable and fast-food manner so that they can get a bite to eat during any hour of the day or night.  Students in Gainesville often wake up early to go to classes or prepare for their days and also stay up late whether they are studying, hangout out, or going out to bars.  Opening a place that is open 24 hours will allow these young adults to have a comforting meal or snack that is not too expensive and gives them the flexibility to get what they want.  The chipotle-style set up will also make it easier for people that want real breakfast food but do not want to have to sit down somewhere and tip a waiter.

3) Who are you offering it to?

I am offering this concept to college students in the Gainesville area, particularly those that enjoy breakfast food and are always on the go.  The idea that all my customers have in common is that they desire quick and causal bite to eat and want the flexibility to get the kind of breakfast food they desire.  Most of the customers will be on a college budget and will not want to spend more than 10 dollars on their meal/snack.

4) Why do they care? Your solution is only valuable insofar as customers believe its valuable to them. Here, explain why customers will actually pay you money to use your product or service.

Customers will actually pay to eat at Stacked because they desire the comfort of breakfast food, especially during the late hours of the night and the early hours of the morning.  Also, people want the flexibility of ordering exactly what they want rather than having to change around orders at other breakfast places and my restaurant provides them with the opportunity to customize things exactly the way they want to.

5) What are your core competencies? What sets you apart from everyone else? Also: what do you have that nobody else has?

What sets my concept apart from all those already in the Gainesville area is that there is not currently a customizable breakfast place nor is there a counter place to get this type of food during the late hours of the night.  When people want food after going out, they are often stuck with options for burgers, pizza, or cookies and do not have a place where they can even try to get healthier options.Stacked provides students with a variety of options and allows them to either have a full meal or a quick snack.

Overall I feel that the information that I learned from these aspects will only help me make my restaurant stronger and more applicable to my target audience.  I really want to spend a lot of time working on Stacked's brand image to ensure that people see it as a place with a variety of options and full of fresh foods.  I think that some people may be concerned about the quality of the food for the price and the fast-food style but these concerns can be smoothed through the help of credible food analysts and companies that can review the place to give it a positive reputation.  I am confident that most negatives can be turned into positives through the help of customer feedback which is something that I take very seriously.

  1. I appreciate the time that you spent on this assignment to really go into detail about your idea and describe all the aspects. I agree that the information you found will help you make a stronger and more accurate business based on your market. You also mentioned the importance of customer feedback in your summary, which is pertinent to any successful company. Most of us are still in the early stages of our ideas, and I'm sure if you choose to pursue this, you'll be able to find credible people to help you. Great post!

  2. Hey Emily,
I am so glad that you are wanting to open up this business! I think it would be very successful, especially in Gainesville. I like how it is a Chipotle- style as well. You did a great job talking about the who, what, why. There is nothing out there in Gainesville like your idea so that definitely sets you apart.
