3A- My Entrepreneurship Story

In high school, I was very involved in a business organization called DECA and served as the president during my senior year.  Over the course of my experience, I participated in several entrepreneurship projects as a part of practice challenges that we had to get members motivated for our annual Shark Tank event.  In 2016, my team and I placed in the top three for our entrepreneurial project called “Apollo Resources.” We envisioned the company to provide a cost-effective way for both people and businesses to install solar panels through fixed monthly payments that would be cheaper due to government subsidies and environmental surroundings.  Following this competition, we wrote a thirty-page paper on the company which placed in the top ten for Broward County. This paper included everything from our target market, to our projected finances, to our use of SoLoMo marketing, and even our background research to demonstrate potential for growth in particular areas. I quickly realized that I had a passion for problem-solving and loved managing projects that I was passionate about.  When it came time to pick classes, I picked this course without hesitation to fulfill my elective requirement because I am genuinely curious about what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur. I feel that there are so many misconceptions about what entrepreneurship entails and would like to see if it is a match for me. I look forward to taking the assignments seriously while having fun with them to apply my creativity.

    Your entrepreneurship story was very interesting and the project idea that your club came up with for affordable solar panels sounds great! Business requires a lot of problem solving skills, and I hope to learn some in this class as well. I also think it's important to always find ways to combine creativity with work and school, as you mentioned in your last sentence. Thanks for sharing your story!

    Hey Emily! I really enjoyed reading about your entrepreneurship story and the business that you envisioned with your classmates. The business idea to expand solar power through a subscription service is an idea I have never heard of. How many years did it take for the solar panels to become cost effective for the homeowner? Surprisingly, I also enrolled in this course due to an experience that I had during high school. In my senior year, I took an entrepreneurship class that focused on formulating a business idea and writing a proposal similar to what you described. I think that this course will help us all grow as entrepreneurs.

Opportunity There is currently no place in Gainesville that provides people with the opportunity to get breakfast food in a customizable, fast-food set up and is open 24 hours.  After going out, many people seek comfort foods such as pancakes, waffles, eggs etc but there is not a place that is open really late and is in the areas that people go out at.  Also, there is an increasing trend with places that are set up like Chipotle, Grill Fresh, Bolay and other places that allow the customers to customize their meals with a variety of options. 2.  Background Info The who:  College students/ Millenials The what: There is a lack of convenient breakfast places that are open 24 hours and are in a fast-food, customization set-up The why:  Restaurants may not have the start-up capital and resources to open up a place that is open during late hours and has fresh foods. 3. 12A – Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No. 1

1) Segment- The segment of my market that I have chosen to analyze is college students, particularly those that attend the University of Florida in Gainesville and like to go out. 2) Interviewees- I decided to interview two females and one male for the purpose of this project.  All three of them are college sophomores and explained that they like to go out with friends frequently during the evening. 3-5)  I learned that the latest that would be necessary for the restaurant to be opened would most likely be until 3 AM because after this hour people usually return to their homes.  Additionally, there are some nights where this concept would seem more desirable than others such as Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.  On nights such as Sundays and Mondays, this concept would not seem as appealing during the late hours and it may be desirable to make shorter hours during these time periods to save money on paying staff.  Additionally, my interviewees emphasiz...
