26A- Creating Failure
1) This past October, I failed to keep myself organized after visiting my hometown for my cousin's wedding and I left my laptop at home on accident. I needed this laptop for work as well as homework assignments and a test that I had the next day. In order to get this laptop to Gainesville as soon as possible, my mom had to ship it to me in an expensive box with insurance and the total cost far exceeded what I would have liked to pay. While this was not a cost that I had planned for, I had to pay it because I needed my computer in order to complete my responsibilities.
2) From this experience I learned that it is important to keep track of all of your belongings and helpful to make lists when travelling with important items. These lists make it easier to ensure that one has all of their belongings and knows exactly what they brought so that they can make it back home with everything they came with. Additionally, I learned that it is overall important to stay organized to prevent stress and unplanned accidents. Organization really is key to so many aspects of life and this skill keeps being proven time and time again.
3) While I have failed many times over the years, I wouldn't really trade many of my experiences because I feel that each of my mistakes have helped me grow. I am a true believer that everything happens for a reason and has a purpose so I don't get as frustrated when I mess up in a situation. Of course there are times that I get very stressed or upset about the outcome of something but recognize that I wouldn't be who I am without those actions. Even though that sounds really cliche', I feel that it holds true to my life so far. This class has changed my perspective on failure because I feel that I am more likely to take a risk now as I can see that the business-world is very unpredictable.
Hey Emily,
ReplyDeleteI’ve had a similar experience to you where I left my laptop charger in Gainesville when I headed home for one weekend. I also needed to do homework and I had to get my charger shipped. It was a hassle but I learned that you always need to double check that you have everything. I usually make lists but I forgot that one thing! Live and learn.
Hey Emily. I think that many people can relate to your laptop unfortunate event. I've had that happening to me in my classroom when I still lived in Belgium. It is very annoying as sometimes the value of the computer is not only the computer itself but all the unsaved files that are in it . I like how you say that you are more likely to take risks now that the business-world after taking this class.
ReplyDeleteHi!
ReplyDeleteI appreciate you sharing this story in your post. I agree that it's important to keep track of things by using a list (either one you've written or just a mental checklist). I run through all of the things I need before leaving my dorm for the day so that I don't forget things. However, I've still left my keys and other items I've needed behind. You wrote a good reflection for this assignment, and I think it's great that this class has given you a new perspective on failure.
Hey Emily. As college students, I think we have all misplaced or forgotten our laptop once or twice. I had a similar situation happen to me during Freshman year where someone took my laptop instead of theirs from the library. Unfortunately, I had assignments that were late because I didn't have my laptop when I returned home. It took me over a week to find out who had taken my laptop. It made me realize how much we depend on our technology and made me start handwriting notes and typing them up later.
